| Wood Horse Barns: |
|
Wood horse
barns range from the plain and simple to the fancy and
intricate. They can be constructed to accommodate one horse
to an entire herd of horses with the option of building storage space
into the barn or not. Common wood horse barn styles are shed row
barns, run in sheds, and lean to barns. Horse barns are
usually made with wood.

If you
keep your horse primarily in pasture, a run in shed may be all your
horse needs.
Run
in sheds are simple structures that provide temporary shelter from the
weather and usually are not enclosed all the way around; rather, they
have a small or large area that is always open that allows them access
to the shed. They can be somewhat compared to when a person
seeks
temporary shelter from a rainstorm by ducking under the eaves of
a building. Run in sheds can stand alone or be constructed
with an enclosed storage
area attached to it. |

Shed row
barns are designed to be a horse‘s main abode. They come with
separate
stalls on one side with an aisle down the other side. Individual stalls share walls but have separate doors at the stall
fronts. They are made with oak kick boards along the lower
stall
and heavier doors to protect them from powerful equine hoof strikes. |
Lean to
barns are made the same way but come with a large overhang attached to
it that
is supported by beams. This overhang allows the horse to rest
and be groomed under the overhang without the horse being inside the
barn itself. Lean to barns can be entities onto themselves or
the overhang can be added to other barn styles. |
| Wood horse
barns are usually made of wood unless conditions
necessitate metal. Common woods used is making horse
barns are pine and oak and these tend to give the finished barn a more
rustic look; they can be stained or left
natural. Duratemp is a type of plywood that is
engineered to look like grained wood and generally comes from the
manufacturer already painted. The durability of both is
similar and choosing depends on what the customer wants the final horse
barn to look like.barns |
The key
when choosing a horse barn is deciding whether it will be a storage
unit as well as
a dwelling or if it solely be your horse’s abode. There are
oodles of horse barn styles you can choose from so your horse can live
in her own home and not in your home. |
